Plugged Into Techno
I submitted artwork which was chosen to appear in a live exhibition at Fabric in London. The event was a reflection of “Club Culture” (its title) in the UK. My piece was influenced by the early computer graphics of the 1980s and 1990s. A period in which the Techno movement linked graphic design closely with music, and embraced a ‘remix’ culture using appropriation and parody.
Plugged into Techno was directly linked with my visual communication research into photobashing and digital college. Inspiration for the machine plugging the female figure into the music came from the 1968 film ‘Barbarella’. The end result has a ‘cult sci-fi’ appeal that was appreciated by its London audience.
